Federal Way's Aaron Tran did not make it past the qualifications of the 500 meters Tuesday at the 2018 Winter Olympics and will leave South Korea without an individual medal.

Tran finished third out of five racers in the first heat, with only the top two racers advancing to the quarterfinals.

It would not have mattered anyway if he placed in the top two because judges determined Tran was responsible for contact that caused two other skaters to crash. Tran was penalized and disqualified.

Tran and fellow Federal Way speedskater J.R. Celski finish 0-for-4 in individual events at these Games.

They still have the 5,000-meter Relay B-Final to skate on Thursday, There are no medals awarded for winning the B-Final, but there is still a chance the U.S. could walk away with at least a bronze. If at least two of the four teams in the A-Final are disqualified or otherwise unable to finish the race, the winner of the B-Final would get the bronze.

That scenario played out Tuesday in the Women's 3,000-meter Relay. Korea won and Italy took silver after China and Canada were disqualified. The Netherlands, which won the B-Final, was awarded the bronze.
