Wrong-way driver causes head-on crash on I-405

Authorities received calls about a vehicle driving southbound in the northbound lanes just before 2:15 a.m. A few minutes later, a head-on crash was reported near Talbot Road South.

A 33-year-old woman was arrested for suspicion of DUI after causing a head-on crash on I-405 early Tuesday morning.

According to Trooper Chase Van Cleave with the Washington State Patrol, authorities received calls about a vehicle driving southbound in the northbound lanes just before 2:15 a.m. A few minutes later, a head-on crash was reported at the Renton S Curves .

Three people were injured in the two-vehicle crash. A 48-year-old man and a 15-year-old boy, victims in the crash, were transported to the hospital with minor injuries. The 33-year-old driver was transported to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

“We’re counting our blessings that no one seriously or fatally hurt in this crash,” Trooper Chase Van Cleave said. “And again, it’s a stark reminder that you drink or do drugs or do anything that can impair your driving, please don’t get behind the wheel because serious and dangerous things can definitely happen.”

Three lanes of northbound I-405 were closed for several hours but have since reopened.
