Easy DIY lighting adds style to your outdoor entertaining space

Elevate the ambiance of your patio or backyard with these quick and simple ideas your guests will love.

SEATTLE — Social media is full of pictures of beautiful outdoor spaces for the summer season, and you may be wondering how you can achieve the look yourself. Regardless if your short on a budget or on time, it's easier than you think to create a warm and inviting backyard after the sun goes down.

Home decor and design blogger Taryn Whiteaker from Lake Stevens has these ideas you can easily pull off on your own!

Christmas Lights Aren't Just for Christmas!

Unpack those Christmas lights and add a few subtle touches around your home to make your home feel extra inviting for guests. Light up your porch as guests arrive, or wrap the trees around a fire pit to give the space an extra glow.

Transform Your Backyard Into A Magical Oasis

If you are looking to completely transform your backyard this summer, pick up a few packs these outdoor string lights and hang them over your outdoor space! You can typically find them on sale for about $40-50 a strand. Depending on how your backyard is set up, you can connect them to a tree and back to your roof, or you can install permanent posts around your patio to install them. They instantly make your space feel so elegant and welcoming and you can keep them up all summer!

5 Minute Light Up Mason Jar Centerpiece

If  you only have is a couple of minutes to complete a project before your guests arrive, try making these light-up mason jars. They took only 5 minutes each and make such a beautiful centerpiece. You can grab your supplies at any craft store. These lights are battery operated. I placed them in the jars and then covered them with sand to hide the battery packs, then gently wrapped the lights inside. You can clump them together like I did on a coffee table on your patio, or place them in a line down your outdoor table to create a glowing centerpiece for guests as you chat all night.
