Evening's holiday house winner lights up Federal Way

The Quintero family's holiday house is helping those in need this Christmas.

Two cousins, 150 man-hours and more than 20,000 lights went into the winning display of Evening's Holiday House contest.

For three years now, Danny Quintero's home has lit up his Federal Way neighborhood and would fit right next to Clark Griswold's in "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation."

"I do like things to be well-lit, if that's not an understatement," Quintero said.

Many of the decorations are vintage and have sentimental value to his family. The reindeer pulling Santa's sleigh in his front yard were made by his grandfather.

"Early '80's, my grandmother went to a Christmas show and she saw these reindeer," Quintero said, "and she asked my grandfather who worked for Boeing if there was a way for him to just make this."

This year, he hopes to make the holidays even brighter by helping those less fortunate than his family. On Friday, December 22nd the Quinteros will be collecting donations for Mary's Place. Those visiting his Christmas display can enjoy a hot cocoa while taking in the sights. Mr. and Mrs. Claus along with the Grinch will also be there posing for pictures.

"This is all for the community because to sit down on a weekend night and see people drive by, get out of their cars, take pictures...it's really amazing," Quintero said.

And don't worry, Quintero's neighbors don't seem to mind the over-the-top display of Christmas cheer, unlike Clark Griswold's.

The Quintero home is located at 2237 S. 361st St. in Federal Way.
