Damian Lillard's sister on verge of on-court breakout

Damian Lillard is one of the NBA’s oncoming breakout stars. His younger sister may not be at that level, but she is showing that she belongs on the varsity level in Damian’s adopted hometown.

As reported by Oregon Live, the younger Lillard is now a varsity basketball player for Lakeridge High School in Portland. LaNae Lillard has emerged as an integral part of the Lakeridge Pacers. She has the advantage of being left-handed, and she has overpowering strength in her 5-foot-8 frame.

Despite being in the same city, LaNae doesn’t get a chance to spent too much time with her brother, who spends his entire season traveling with the Trail Blazers or shooting commercials. That doesn’t mean that she hasn’t picked up a thing or two from him along the way. According to the sophomore, her drive to the hoop is patterned off Damian’s own cutting ability, and the more famous Lillard is continually asking about his sister’s performance.

“(Damian’s) there for me,” LaNae told Oregon Live. “He supports me like mentally. If I have a game he texts me like ‘How did you do?’ And tells me how I can improve.”

There are still a number of ways in which she can see gains on the court. Nonetheless, LaNae is proving that more than one Lillard can make a major impact on a Portland team.

“She’s really come out and surprised us this year,” Lakeridge girls basketball coach Jillian Noe told Oregon Live. “She’s just strong. She has a knack for the ball, knack for the rim. She was really good, long arms so she can get her little touches in. She’s pretty quick, pretty quick for a post. She has really provided us a lot with her post-play this season.”
